I am facing the necessity of making a career change. I have been employed in a career as a parole officer. Due to post traumatic stress, anxiety and a change in the Department's focus from social work to law enforcement, I was unable to continue working in an environment fraught with possible violence, guns, anger, hostility, deceit, and paranoia. I am on leave now and seeing a shrink as I determine what is next. The longer I am away from the Department (almost one month now), the more I begin to wonder what is ahead for me. I know that it is important to walk your talk. By this I mean, I believe that I must live in the now and be who I truly am, the uniqueness of me. If I do this, God and the Universe will supply my needs, and life will happen exactly the way that it should. However, if I am not willing to trust in myself and put my faith into action and, instead, choose to stay riveted to security, I will pay the price. I will feel inauthentic, disconnected, and insecure.
I reflected on a performance I viewed by Paul Potts, who had the courage to go on to Britain's got Talent and face Simon Cowe to sing opera. He was a mobile phone representative who by night dreamed of being an opera singer. His performance to the cheers and tears of the audience was very moving. I immediately purchased the album. This was a man who had the courage to live his dream. He went on to win Britain's version of American Idol, to sing in front of the Queen of England, and make an album that has sold millions.
So today, to honor his courage, I compiled in sequence his progress and posted it here for you to see. The first video below shows Paul as he enters the audition of Britain's got Talent.I also included his performance in front of the Queen. Some of the interviews disabled the option to embed it on the blog, so you will have to view it by clicking on the link. I hope you will take the time to view these performances and interviews and then to ask yourself as I did, "Am I living in today and being the best of me that I can be?"
