Outlander

Outlander
This is a 600-page time-travel romance and high adventure book in which Claire Randall emerges back in time and is quickly ensnared in life-threatening situations with a Scots warrior named James Fraser. The characters are realistic and believable. Claire is a nurse in her own time. Now she must heal warriors without being labeled a witch. Not knowing that much about the Scottish 16th century culture I don’t know if she is accurate, but intuitively it seems as though she had done her research. It is interesting to see Gabaldon take on issues of 16th century Scotland with the knowledge of 1945 England from which she was transported. Although, it is a romance, it is much more an action book. What is most exciting is that there are several more books in the series. All of them are equally as long, and all of them almost impossible to put down once you begin. I read them all, back to back, and was very disappointed, when they were finished. I did not care for the Lord John series as much, in which she expands one of the more incidental characters of the Outlander series.
